InfiNet Wireless provides solutions which enhance connectivity in Thai Airports

Airports of Thailand plc (AOT), the governing body of Thailand's six international airports, needed a cost-effective, reliable solution after four of its busiest airports - Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Ubon Ratchathani and Phuket Airport - began suffering major downtime due to heavy rainfall and rodents damaging the fiber optic cable infrastructure.

AOT approached Easy Networks, a long-time InfiNet Wireless partner in Thailand, to help them find a solution to replace the cable network and provide a high capacity wireless network that could transfer real-time data. Easy Networks designed the ultimate solution based entirely on the InfiNet Wireless portfolio of products, ensuring interference-free connectivity was deployed throughout each airport.

"The technology delivered by InfiNet Wireless has been fundamental to the successful implementation of these projects. We are now able to deliver a reliable solution to AOT in each airport, allowing them to transfer seamless and reliable data streams of all types," said Warach Watanakulchai, Managing Director at Easy Networks. "AOT can now monitor and manage in real-time all aspects of passenger movement with greater confidence, while at the same time enhancing security and safety in all its airports."

The solution that was deployed consisted of point-to-point (PTP) links from InfiLINK 2x2 product family, which delivers throughputs of up to 280 Mbps over distances of 80 km or more. The selected wireless units were quick and easy to deploy in all of the airports, ensuring as fast and smooth a transition as possible. All the PTP backhauls were fitted with standard E1 converter modules, delivering up to 2 Mbps for the seamless transfer of existing analogue video, voice and passenger data between different sections of each airport.

"AOT needed a solution that would allow it to focus more of its efforts and resources on the day-to-day development and management of its airports, without worrying about potential lost time due to damages to its networks," said Kamal Mokrani, Global Vice President at InfiNet Wireless. "Thanks to our superior solutions and Easy Networks excellent local support, a future-proof solution was delivered to AOT in each of the four airports, allowing them to monitor and manage in real-time all aspects of passenger movement with much greater confidence, and at the same time enhancing security and safety in each of its airports. We look forward to future plans to improve passenger's airport experience even further."
