Google to collaborate with Lime for a ‘cleaner planet’

Google have announced they are partnering with bike rental company Lime.

Along with Lyft and Uber services, Lime will also feature as an option for transportation on Google Maps.

It will direct users to the nearest available Lime scooter, bike or e-bike via their app. The app will also calculate the time to walk to the bike, an estimate of the ride cost, how long the trip will take and ways to pay.

Thirteen selected cities across the world - including San Jose, Los Angeles, and Brisbane – will be the first to access the app, with Google confirming there will be more cities to follow.

After just fourteen months in operation, Lime totaled 11.5 million bike and scooter rides. It is hoped the light individual modes of transportation will reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions, and has aims “to reduce dependence on personal automobiles for short distance transportation and leave future generations with a cleaner, healthier planet.”
