An Australian city has chosen an innovative Internet of Things platform which will deploy a network of environmental sensors that will relay real-time data on air quality, urban heat and noise. The 'Reekoh IoT' platform has been selected as part of the Technology for Urban Liveability Project (TULIP) which is based in Sydney.
TULIP has claimed that the introduction of these environmental sensors will provide data that can act as powerful driver of change in planning, development and public policy in one of the most famous cities in the world. In addition to this, representatives within TULIP firmly believe the new IoT system will also provide a number of potential business opportunities.
It has been reported that by using the 'Reekoh IoT' platform as a core part of the solution technology, TULIP has incorporated a high degree of flexibility and low-cost interoperability within the various components of their solution, such as IoT hardware, customer applications, networks, and open data platforms.
TULIP is a program spearheaded by the University of Technology Sydney and is supported by the government, private sector, research institutions and citizens. It is hoped that the latest integration will provide the city with the framework required in order to facilitate the successful adoption of future technologies that will drive the objectives of the TULIP program that stakeholders and citizens will ultimately benefit from.
Reekoh's value to the smart cites movement has been increasing with the number of disconnected solution components from a growing number of vendors being adopted by government bodies and the solution provider that are working in tandem with them on new projects related to smart cities.
Director of UTS's Knowledge Economy Institute, Frank Zeichner, said the data generated by the Reekoh IoT platform had the potential to transform the city. He said, "We are delighted to have Reekoh, a local Australian company, providing an important element of our TULIP proof of concept. Their IoT integration platform enables us to abstract the collection of data from delivery to a variety of data platforms."
Reekoh co-founder and CEO Dale Rankine said it's incredibly exciting to see how IoT can improve the lives of citizens in the city.
