Toronto wins ‘Best Global Smart City’ at Telecom Review Excellence Awards

The city of Toronto, Canada has won ‘Best Global Smart City’ at the Telecom Review Excellence Awards.

Voters from around the world chose Toronto for their efforts in enhancing the quality and performance of urban services and improving the lives of its residents.

Toronto has a people-first, tech-powered pedestrian plan where buildings will be threaded together by what they call a “people-first public realm.” It focuses on transportation infrastructure designed to support active, walk-able streets all year round.

Toronto is also set to have the first Alphabet-owned smart community called Quayside, which will achieve ‘precedent-setting levels of sustainability, affordability, mobility, and economic opportunity’.

Winners were chosen based on recognized and demonstrated capabilities in their specific sector by an independent panel of 15 experienced industry veterans.

“This year’s award winners represent the absolute best in our industry and we are very proud to honor these winners with such a distinguished award,” said Toni Eid, CEO of Trace Media International.
