Fiber Misr to implement smart app system on Egypt’s Knowledge City

The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) signed an agreement with Fiber Misr Systems (FMS) to implement the smart application system that would manage the soon-to-be-established Knowledge City being built by the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).

The Chairman of AOI Electronics Factory Ahmed Abdel Aziz and the Chairman of Benya Holding Company Ahmed Mekky signed the deal respectively. ICT Minister Amr Talaat said that the Knowledge City is a pioneering project that works towards building a digital Egypt.

For this specific project, AOI Chairperson Abdel Moniem El-Terras indicated that six alliances of global and local companies have applied. Among these, the alliance led by Fiber Misr Egypt was chosen. It includes leading tech companies Siemens, Cisco, and Dell.

The first phase of the Knowledge City is scheduled to open this year. In preparation for this, the smart applications system would represent an integrated open platform for program developers to activate all elements of the smart infrastructure such as distinguished learning; scientific and applied research; and innovation and entrepreneurship in various fields including ICT.

El-Terras also stated that the design of the Knowledge City achieves the highest degree of integration by using various smart systems, considering all requirements for cybersecurity. He also added that by collaborating with Fiber Misr, AOI aims to develop a national industry that meets the local market needs in terms of advanced technology infrastructure, particularly to serve development projects and smart cities inside Egypt.

In detail, the Knowledge City includes Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), Creativa Innovation Hub, an applied research center, the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Universal Design and Assistive Technologies (AT), in addition to the service buildings and the main control building.
