Qatar readies to launch new sustainable floating hotel by 2025

Qatar is set to add one more floating hotel in its range of such hotels. But this one is going to be special.

The Eco-Floating Hotel is touted to be the most luxurious of them all and will produce clean energy and zero waste by rotating slowly to generate its electricity via solar, wind, and tidal energy.

On the coastal band of the doughnut-shaped hotel, an energy production system called vertical axis wind turbine and umbrella (VAWTAU) will be used. The vertical aspect works as a wind turbine and the horizontal plane is used as a sun umbrella. Each VAWTAU module will be capable of generating 25 kilowatts (kW) of electricity, and 55 such modules are currently being planned. The glass vortex shape of the roof will harvest rainwater for the greenery.

The sustainable real estate is designed by Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS) and will have 152 rooms.

“The eco-floating hotel is inspired by the sea with which it is associated in the first degree in terms of form and design principle. At this point, it is worth mentioning that the project will work efficiently in areas where there is a continuous and certain flow,” HAADs said in a statement.

Spread across 35,000 square meters, the hotel will be accessible by a pier connected to the shore; however, guests can come by boats or helicopters.

The hotel will have balconies overlooking the sweeping sea views from different angles as the structure rotates. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, gym, and even a miniature golf course will also be on offer for guests.

According to the design studio HAADS, as carried by New Atlas, the plan is just in its concept phase. Technical and feasibility studies are currently underway, and the designers hope to realize the blueprints by 2025.

Qatar has had floating hotel projects before but the eco-hotel is touted to be the most luxurious hotel project yet.

Early in 2020, alternative real estate company ADMARES said it would deliver 16 energy sustainable floating hotels to Qatar in time for FIFA World Cup in 2022. Located near Qetaifan Island North, the floating hotels are developed for football fans for the tournament.

Qetaifan Projects and ADMARES plan to embed sustainable solutions with minimum ecological impact by having the hotels run on solar energy.
