In a significant development in Bahrain’s infrastructure, Siemens Energy has emerged as the sole bidder for Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority’s (EWA) 400 kV substation project in Sitra Industrial Area, submitting a bid of BHD 59 million (USD 157 million).
The electrical products conglomerate’s bid was submitted in response to the Request for Proposal (RFP) tender to support the execution of electrical and civil works for establishing the new substation.

Advancing Bahrain’s Energy Infrastructure
The strategic initiative includes a comprehensive scope of work, including the design, manufacture, supply, transportation, erection, test, and commission of the 400 kV grid substation.
The substation will feature a 400 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS), a 220 kV GIS, a 21 kV switchgear, control protection, an industrial control system (ICS), telecom systems, and associated substation cabling.
Extensive civil works and associated building services include closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs), electronic access control systems, and Sitra Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP) interface-related works.
Moreover, the project is linked to the planned Sitra IWPP development, which prequalified developers from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, China, South Korea, and Japan.
Bahrain’s state-of-the-art project signifies the country’s efforts in expanding its power infrastructure, highlighting the importance of the Kingdom’s strategic goals for modernization.
